About the project
“I Want to live”
“I Want to live” is a governmental project of the
Coordination Headquarters on the Treatment of Prisoners of War
established with the support of the
Ministry of Defense of Ukraine
and
Defense Intelligence of Ukraine. It is intended for servicemen of the Russian armed forces willing to voluntarily surrender into captivity.
You are not alone – several thousand servicemen have already saved their lives by surrendering voluntarily.
Our guarantees to the prisoners
Compliance with the Geneva Conventions on the treatment of prisoners of war, regardless of citizenship or nationality.
Detention in decent conditions under the supervision of the International Committee of the Red Cross and other international human rights organizations.
Three meals a day, medical care and ability to maintain regular contact with your family
Voluntary exchange for the servicemen of the Ukrainian Armed Forces held in captivity in Russian Federation.
Opportunity to seek shelter in Ukraine and other European countries
It doesn’t matter why you ended up in this war — whether you believed Russian propaganda, were looking for money, or were tricked into fighting.You still have a chance to save yourself and return home alive.

How to surrender into captivity
To surrender into captivity in a safe way with the project “I Want to live”, use the Telegram chatbot. If you are unable to contact us beforehand, memorize these instructions and act independently. Head towards to the nearest Ukrainian position and follow these steps:
- Discard your weapon.
- Raise your hands up. If possible, hold a piece of white cloth.
- Shout out lout: “Ya sdayus (I surrender in Ukrainian)”
- When instructed, approach the Ukrainian soldiers and follow their commands.
